Did Tim Thomas snub President Obama
64
The NHL Boston Bruins visited the Whitehouse to celebrate their 2011 Stanley Cup Championship Victory, they were short one very important player, NHL goaltender Tim Thomas. He elected to stay home instead of get a commendation from President Obama.
Thomas says he did it because he is just not happy with the way the government is being run these days, under both parties. He also states that it was his individual choice, and does not reflect back on his teammates, he posted on his Facebook page.
Thomas is not the first to snub the Whitehouse, Tony Stweart and Carl Edwards of NASCAR fame also did not attend when they were invited. Last fall Dan Hampton refused to make an appearance after his 1985 chicago Bears championship team was due in for a celebration, "Im' just not a fan of the guy in the Whotehouse."
Thomas is the first one to use his political differences s a means for his excuse not to attend a Whitehouse function in his own honor. He is using his fame to stand up for what he believes is an impotant topic, his government. He also takes the chance of alienating his team, fans and his sponors.
Thomas is definetly drawing attention to his beliefs rather than his team, Boston Bruins accomplishments. A split that seems to be done from purely selfish reasons and he is not showing his team comradery by standing alone on this issue. Thomas is only one of the two American playes on the team.
But when the President extends you an inventation to come to the Whiehouse shouldn't you just go? It was about his team and their honor, not about his political agenda because he supports another candidate and this was one way of making the person come to the forefront in the media, Glen Beck, Tea Party.
No matter what the President is still the leader of America the home in which you live. You are never going to agree with anybody 100% of the time. It is about the sanctity of the Whitehouse and the President's position as leader of the nation, and respect. Has he vistied other countries leaders with his team while out campainging for the Boston Bruins?
So we are to think that if Glen Beck gets in office, tim Thomas will of course make his presence known and accept the invite to attend. There are other ways to show you disapproval of the government. But you should respect the Whitehouse and the President's position.

I can understand some of your points but, this country was founded on certain principles and one of those is freedom of speech. Tim Thomas used this freedom in a back handed way by choosing not to speak with the president. Yes he snubbed the president, and many people have died throughout history to allow him that right. His actions take nothing away from the rest of the team. They are still champions whether or not he chooses to participate in the celebration.
